About the Book
The animosity between Black communities and law enforcement has recently grabbed the national headlines. It is a story of discordance, which manifested many years ago. It is imperative to study past actions to understand the root of the issue between race and law enforcement. Law enforcement must establish a new bond of trust with the communities they serve. This book will explore the true dark history of law enforcement. With this comprehensive mindset, the healing process and bridging the gap between race and the American policing system can begin.
About the Author
Joseph Schaefer was born in Miami Beach, Florida, the middle child of three. Joseph’s passion for writing ignited while completing his undergraduate with the University of Florida. Joseph joined the American policing system at the age of fourteen (14) years of age as a Pembroke Pines Police Explorer. Twenty-four (24) years later Joseph is currently serving as a Commander for a South Florida Police Department. Joseph’s first book is Police Fragility which had yielded phenomenal reviews.
Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?
My recent release is called Police Fragility, the book is based on the distrust between race and law enforcement. The book explores the dark history of law enforcement and what we can do to promote change.
Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, is it directed at any particular market?
This is a two-part answer, first I hope members of the local, state, and federal government’s law enforcement and court systems become enlightened by the very dark origin of our profession and acknowledge it, show empathy, and start the healing process. On the other hand, I hope the Black community reads the book and finds comfort in the message that we hear your message, acknowledge our past, and have faith in what our future holds.
Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?
One of my favorite authors is Lee Cockerell. Lee’s Creating Magic was a fantastic book on leadership that anyone in a management or leadership position MUST read. Lee’s work has been life-changing for me since adopting his leadership style has enriched me with promotions at work and the manifestation of my book.
Another favorite author of mine is Angie Thomas. She authored The Hate You Give, the book shed light on the distrust between race and law enforcement from a point of view I could never have experienced without her talent. The Hate You Give in a way inspired my book Police Fragility. Every police officer needs to read this.
Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?
The best advice that I can give to any aspiring author looking to publish is to stick to what fuels your passion and never give up or be discouraged. When a door closes it’s not a failure, it just not the path for you.
