S*W*A*G*G 4: Soulforce

About the Book

Darkness is spreading. Gideon Flynn, leader of SWAGG, is rapidly becoming more shadow than light.

And it’s not just Flynn. Destructive energies are rippling across the planet, causing rifts in families, continents, even the earth itself.

As super-scientist Stein, along with his old friend Frank and his new SWAGG team, races to find a way to bring Gideon back from the Shadows, they realise that Flynn was always secretive for a reason.

He knows something. He knows what’s coming. And he knows how to stop it. If SWAGG can’t bring him back before he disappears into darkness forever, it’s going to be too late… For everyone.

About the Author

Jill Marshall is a proud mum, G-Nana and comms consultant, as well as the author of dozens of books for children, young adults and (old) adults. When she’s not doing any of those things she loves singing, dancing and theatre and going to see other people do singing, dancing and theatre. She divides her time between the UK and NZ, and hopes one day to travel between them by SatiSPI, Broover or Zzzippp.

Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?

Very bizarrely, given that it was finished way before recent events, this book is about what happens when one power-crazy individual starts a war based on fake news, disinformation and propaganda – and who’s going to stop them.

Led by the mysterious Gideon Flynn, the superhero S.W.A.G.G team of spygirl Jane Blonde, Jack BC AKA Anubis, Stein the seventeenth-century super-scientist, and legendary Catgirl Matilda Peppercorn, have been tracking the sinister activities of the HOST organisation as it spreads evil tentacles around the world. Now it’s showtime.

SWAGG 4: Soulforce is the last book in the SWAGG quartet and the finale of a 19-book collection featuring the origin series for the SWAGG team members. So it’s also about how the team members have found themselves individually, grown together as a team, and figured out the true nature of their collective powers.

Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, is it directed at any particular market?

My series about Sensational Spylet, Jane Blonde, has been pretty popular, so this would appeal to any readers who want to find out what happens next for Blonde, and to Jackanubis, Stein of Stein and Frank and crazy cat-fighter, Matilda Peppercorn.

It’s directed at the tween and teen market and is an immersive read for those super-readers who like to delve deep. Readers of Harry Potter, Rick Riordan, Cressida Cowell, Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton, C.S. Lewis – they’re the kind of people who’ll enjoy the SWAGG collection. We’re talking massive adventure, powerful but relatable characters, magic, gadgets, myth and mayhem – all told with fun, laughter and a big, emotionally intelligent heart.

Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?

My personal favourites are the writers who inspired me – Roald Dahl, especially, and C.S Lewis. I just love the way they build these amazing, vast worlds. And personally, as an adult, I love Nick Hornby and David Nicholls for the humour, insight and brilliant dialogue.

Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?

Read a lot, first of all. And then sit your behind down and write something. Don’t wait for permission, and don’t worry about how good it is. Just do it because your soul tells you to. Then the more you do, the better you’ll get.

Qn 5: Where can our readers find out more about you, do you have a website, or a way to be contacted?

Readers can find out more about me on my author website www.jillmarshallbooks.com and on the SWAGG site, www.swaggbooks.com (where there are also fun things like quizzes and videos, and which is promo-free for younger readers).
There are also SWAGG Books and Jill Marshall Books pages on Instagram and Facebook. SWAGGBooks is a monitored and safe space for tween/teen followers.
