A Beautiful Mind is Poetry Defined by Denis Brown

About the Book

The writer delves into the crux of what it means to be a human living in a turbulent and ever-pressing world. With humour in some of its undertones, this collection of poems comes from the unique and extraordinary mind of Denis Brown, who believes that poetry is the outward expression of an inward emotion.

About the Author

I have four famous friends who will be my brothers to the end. Some of whom you will already know: “Bill, Bryon, Burns, and Keats famously penned their poems upon bedsheets”
Imagination with a dash of inspiration comes a breath of fresh air… Poetry lost? (T’was never so) Simply admiring a view and waiting for you-know-who. I might be this century’s Walter Mitty, but frankly, that doesn’t bother me. You are who you are. 😊

Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?

ABM = “A Beautiful Mind, is poetry defined” is literally about everything in life that comes our way. So, what I did was create a collection of poems ranging from politics, scandals, top stories across the world. I would say that was the source of inspiration that led me to write about it in the first place. As it grew, I began to think… Well, I love this! 😊
I grew excited as it really did vary, some poems were about life, and wisdom of life, others were about social issues that we needed to be addressing.

Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, is it directed at any particular market?

The thing is I have to admit it wasn’t meant to be just targeting one specific group, which some would then complain that in itself is vague and then how do you expect to reach a targeted audience? Yes, I understand that. But some of us feel like we’re a square peg trying to fit a round hole!🤣
Sadly, I’ve never been one for being pigeon holed into a specific box, why? When you can be in all boxes, yes’ it sounds greedy but who makes up all these rules? So, whilst it would be nice to say this really just goes out to only other poets, that would be incorrect. It really goes out to everyone who is interested in reading it.
It was extremely difficult for me to decide and in the end, I gave up. It covers politics, global issues on every level, and it explores both past present and the future. So, it’s a real mix.
Yes, I realise that might not please anyone! But I would say have a look for yourself and then decide.😊

Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?

Well, that’s a tough one! Alchemist is very close to my heart and probably pushed me to write. But I have tons of favourites all for different reasons and to exclude them would be unforgiveable! The Alchemist reminded me that we all need to have dreams and to reach out for them, no matter what.

Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?

For those that are “New” my advice is if this is your passion that alone will drive you, and don’t be put off. You will have your mountains to climb but hold on to your dream.

Read other writers works! The more you expand that knowledge the better you’re off.
As for trying to enhance your writing, take time alone and allow your mind to just percolate those ideas, and thoughts till you feel that you can put them down onto paper. Sometimes you’ll think of a line, and you want to connect it to something else. I have those moments and it’s always the birth of inspiration to another poem. Don’t worry even if it’s two lines, keep it. You’ll come back to it and before you know it you will find yourself building it all up slowly.
Other times it will sit there 2 years, still don’t worry, when the right time comes, then it will come.

Qn 5: Where can our readers find out more about you, do you have a website, or a way to be contacted?

Yes, I have a website which is called ABM129.com
I also have an email address there which is den@abm129.com Den, is short for Denis and my surname is Brown as in the colour!
