About the Author

Jana O’Dell is an author and poet from West Virginia. She has been diagnosed with several mental illnesses and uses writing to calm her down and help get through bad times. Her struggles are documented with alarming truth and clarity. She hopes by publishing her trials others may find inspiration and overcome their own problems. Jana lives with her wife, their children, and a host of fur babies. She enjoys playing board games, binge watching her favorite shows, and listening to music.

Each poem is filled with raw emotion guaranteed to capture readers attention while introducing the author’s private world and how she has dealt with the emotions she faces daily. Mental health is one of the most common afflictions facing the world. Jana O’Dell courageously shows us her personal struggles while highlighting her highs and lows in a style that is both engaging, relatable and unique. Cyanide Kisses, with its free flowing form and classic rule breaking format, will make you reflect in ways you never have before; and leave you with a better understanding of how mental illness can affect someone in a way they never let be seen.

Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors to choose from, which book and author would you suggest to be your favourite and why?

Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe’s works have always spoken to me. They are dark with a truth to the human imperfection.

Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new to the writing work, or who was trying to enhance their craft or business?

Never give up.

  2. A motivating discussion is always worth comment. this is a subject that affects many people – depression is awful and we should learn more so we can better help others.
    It might not be a real taboo subject but typically people don’t discuss these topics. We need more discussion on this to help people!
