The Devil Plays for Keeps

Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book, The Devil Plays for Keeps, What is it about?

This is my first full fiction about a couple that met in church and get married. Janice believed Lamar was a normal man, but once she went to visit his family she discovers someone she knew nothing about (Not a bad thing in this case). He has OCD from a past trauma that caused him to become obsessed with his new life. Janice becomes lonely, finds passion in another man’s arms, and it opened up terrible family secrets. All have to make the decision to win back their family through forgiveness, or let the devil play for keeps and take it all. This is the first book in what I hope will be two books. I’ll put my bias aside and tell you, you will not expect the plot twist in this one. I wrote it and was twisted up myself when the plot came together.

Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, The Devil Plays for Keeps, is it directed at any particular market?

This book is for anyone 18 and older. It is based around a Christian couple but anyone can read and enjoy it. It is not just for the church family. As a matter of fact, many people in the church might object to it. Part of the message is about the judgment of people in the church and the perception of them having to be perfect at all times.

Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?

I love too many authors and books to pick a favourite but the BIBLE I do hold close to my heart.

Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?

  1. Unless, you have no choice, never accept a free ISBN, and watch who you buy your number from. They will be your publishing company.
  2. Be true to your writing! I didn’t want to cuss in my book, and I didn’t much, but I had to be honest as to how a person would react if they walked into a room to find their husband or wife in the middle of a compromising situation. Even if they are Christian would I expect that person to quote scripture and say all is well? or would I expect the person to be hurt and angry? If so, how do I think they would act, or what would they say? How would I act, or what would I say?
  3. If you think of a title write it down right away. If you’re sleeping, force yourself to wake up and write it down and keep a notebook and pen next to your bed. If you can’t figure out what to write after you come up with a title, put it down and walk away. I promise one day it will come. This book stayed on my desktop for over a year before the story came to me. I wrote the entire story in three weeks then additional weeks to fill in the holes.
  4. Write whatever you want, no matter the genre. Only rich people who get paid lots of money stick to one genre. You may have to write in order to figure out which is your niche. I finally found mine. This book is rachet! I told someone what my book was about; her response? That’s disgusting! 🤣 Exactly the response I was looking for because it’s so out there!
