My second children’s Picture book, for 4-7-year-olds, is about a strong, independent Yorkshire little girl called Jenny. The book is called The Adventures of Jenny and Philip. We all need friends. Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?

Roald Dahl’s writing has always captivated me. His whimsical tales enchanted me as a young reader. Matilda left a lasting impression with her story of a brilliant young girl standing up to neglectful parents and a tyrannical headmistress. Similarly, James and the Giant Peach was a delightful adventure featuring a giant peach, talking insects, and a remarkable journey across the ocean.

William Shakespeare, the esteemed English playwright, poet, and actor, is widely recognized as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s foremost dramatist. His masterful works, especially Hamlet and Othello, captivate me.

I am drawn to his skillful delving into various genres, from comedy to history to tragedy. His adaptability and writing prowess shine through in every play.

Before even putting pen to paper, I researched a lot. Knowing your genre and reading different books is essential if you write for children. I talked to young children and read my work to them. They are my market, and their response is critical. I ensured that I captured their speech pattern and used vocabulary suitable for 4-7-year-olds’ reading ages.
