About the Author

Teaching English to both children and adults has always been my passion, and throughout my career, I have explored many different methods to make learning engaging and effective. Originally from North Vancouver, Canada, I have been fortunate to call Italy my home since 2000, where I have enjoyed the rich culture, exquisite cuisine, and beautiful beaches.

However, over the years, I noticed that many children were struggling with English in school, often lacking a strong foundation in the basics. This observation inspired me to take action, leading to the creation of the Dusty Dino project, a fun and innovative approach to help young learners master English in an enjoyable and accessible way.

Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?

This is from an article translated from Italian written in a local newspaper in Italy.
The “Dusty Dino English” book series represents an innovative and engaging method for learning English, designed specifically for children aged 5 to 11 years.

Created by Kimberly Hardy, in collaboration with Adam Craparotta and Alex Porfido, this project uses the adventures of a friendly dinosaur to turn language learning into a fun and educational experience.

Dusty Dino is the protagonist of the series and guides young readers through various familiar settings, such as the zoo, the school, the city, and the playground. During these adventures, children learn new English words and phrases in a natural and engaging way. The choice of recognizable environments helps children connect better with the content and see English as an integral part of their daily lives.

One of the distinctive features of the “Dusty Dino English” series is the integration of books and educational videos. Each book contains pages filled with cheerful and colorful images, accompanied by easy-to-understand English texts, interactive games, and quizzes that help reinforce the knowledge gained in a playful manner. Additionally, they include QR codes that provide direct access to YouTube videos, where children can practice pronunciation while reading.

At the end of each book, children receive a certificate signed by Dusty Dino, an acknowledgment that celebrates their progress and motivates them to keep learning.

The author developed this method based on the difficulties she observed in her young students during over twenty years of directing ESL language schools in Rome. Together with her co-authors, she has created a guided and structured learning path that combines fun elements with captivating characters to maintain children’s attention.

The books have been translated into several languages, including Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Japanese, making them accessible to a global audience. This multilingual approach allows children of different nationalities to benefit from an innovative method.

The first two books in the series are already available on Amazon under the name “Dusty Dino English Series.” The third book, “Dusty Goes to Town,” will be available in September 2024. For more information, you can visit the series’ Amazon page or search for the accompanying videos on YouTube.
