About the Author

I have never shown any interest in any formal qualifications as a dog trainer. My time was always spent in rescue and running my kennels. All my dog training experience comes from hands-on practice and mistakes. In fact, my first real experience of teaching a dog to walk to heel was in 1999 while teaching Benji, the Springer Spaniel, to stop chasing cows! My life has always had animals in it, but it wasn’t until aged 27 that I started working with dogs full-time. Over the years I’d had various part-time jobs working with dogs, my first business was selling pet food at age 18. Little did I know that my job at the kennels in 1996 was the start of a very interesting, stressful but ultimately successful career.

I still run my own business, a serial entrepreneur if you like. The current business – Meg K9 Dog Leads – is the reason for this e-book. Many conversations, often losing my voice talking to frustrated dog owners was what led me to put pen to paper as it were. All my customers wanted was a pleasant walk and a happy and content dog. I knew my dog leads were a band aid, albeit good ones, but shouldn’t people have the know-how to learn how to teach their dogs some basic yet essential lessons? So began my attempt to put all I knew about dog training into words. The book aims to remove the jargon and confusion and set out some easy to follow (with a helpful video on YouTube – by someone else) instructions for you to follow and learn.
