Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?

Our book is an introduction to our main character, Jojo, and her perception of the world. She is a little girl about to enter kindergarten and experience alot of firsts. She expresses her worries to her parents by asking if she will see kids that look like her. She points out the mom and dad look different as all three of them have different skin colors and different hair. She soon meets a new friend with brown skin and brown curls like hers and her worries melt away.

Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, is it directed at any particular market?

Our book is a reflection of real life so we hope it appeals to kids, parents, grandparents, and teachers. We see diversity everywhere we look because we believe that God created us to appreciate and love our differences.

Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?

We have so many favorites! I love the Laura Nemeroff’s If you give a… series – If you give a mouse a cookie, If you give a dog a donut – that series is so much like a child needing one thing that leads to another thing and another. I also love the Pete the Cat series by Eric Litwin and James Dean. Those books are so fun and easy to read for beginning readers. We also love the Dr. Seuss rhyming books.

Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?

I love lifelong learning so my suggestion is do some research. We live in a time where information is at the tips of our fingers – literally our phones are mini computers. There is information on how to do something available on google, youtube, even some social media can help motivate. If you truly want to be an author and you don’t know what to do, talk to the people in your life that inspire you. Those people will point you to doing your own research. Take a trip down the rabbit hole. Type into google, how to write books and see what happens.
Try ChatGPT, try Amazon kindle direct publishing. Or if you want to physically go on an adventure, go visit a bookstore and ask questions.

Qn 5: Where can our readers find out more about you, do you have a website, or a way to be contacted?

Our website is authorsrjarnette.com and we will be hosting author signing events starting November 21st at the Colonial Center in South Hill, Virginia (see below)
