Marked: The Child Doomed by Prophecy @nerd_writer

About the Book

Enter the world of Haven, a world where Camelot, Atlantis, and ancient biblical cities were transplanted to save them from their fates on Earth. A world of myth, dragons, prophesy, magic, and monsters.

Ancient scripture foretells — a child will be born; he will be known by many names Marked, First of the Marked, and Doomseeker. His coming will bring chaos, ushering the world into an era of blood and fire. He will take the dark throne, and with his might, kill the Sun God, plunging Haven into night.

But there is hope.

The Doomseeker will be born with markings. Through his marks, the world will know him, so he can be killed to save Haven from his destiny.

When a righteous light mage, Warlock saves a Mayan mother in labor, he finds himself face to face with the marked child. But the innocent life of a child isn’t so easily extinguished. The Warlock makes the impossible choice to hide the marked child from the world and teach him to follow the light. With the direction of the Warlock, maybe then, the prophecies plaguing the Marked can be wrong.

Can the Marked save himself and the world from his grim destiny?

Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?

Marked came from the idea that lost civilizations had so much worth, too much to just assume the universe was done with them. When I started researching and writing Marked, I built the fantasy world on the idea that these civilizations migrated to a different world. Then I started to think about how those people and cultures would evolve over the centuries together. I love dragons and fantasy, the idea that lost civilizations could be magically saved really fit in with the fantasy genre. I picked the lost civilizations to migrate to based on my life experience and interests. The next big step was to think through how the magic would work and what role religion played in a world with real magic, while also considering the beliefs of mixed cultures. The mix of magic and religion feeds into the creation of my main character Apollo who hides the secret that he’s Marked by the gods as my fantasy world’s version of the biblical beast, the person destined to bring about the end of the world.

Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, is it directed at any particular market?

Marked is a high/epic fantasy novel targeted at adults and young adults. It builds off of traditional fantasy concepts but also twists them into new ideas. Dark magic used in my world in coordination with negative emotion corrupts the body, turning normal magic users into these hideous and powerful creatures called Doya. One of my favorite ideas is this type of corrupted dragon called a Bane that is half-dragon half-scorpion and its sting infects other dragons with its eggs. If you like traditional fantasy with a new twist, this book is for you.

Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?

George RR Martin is easily my favorite fantasy writer, his command of character perspective is spectacular. I also really enjoy Joe Abercrombie for his complex world-building while also telling compelling character-driven stories.

Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?

Write. Make mistakes. Rewrite. Write while the story is fresh and it will have the pop it needs to keep readers interested. If you’re bored, they’re bored.

Qn 5: Where can our readers find out more about you, do you have a website, or a way to be contacted?
