About the Book
Lee Wilson brings the historical Jesus into focus on a matter whose time has come with eye-opening information that sceptics should consider before forming an opinion. -Vincent Mallozzi, The New York Times
Was Jesus Married? “No, of course not!” It’s one of those things you’ve always been told—that Jesus was unmarried and celibate, and “everybody” knows it. End of story and case closed. Or is it?
Can you prove it? Can you quote a Bible verse that says that Jesus was single? Is there a prophecy that says Jesus had to be unmarried or else he couldn’t be the Messiah? In fact, is there any evidence whatsoever that Jesus was single or is it just something that you have assumed based on what you have been told your entire life? Now we’re getting somewhere.
“Because that’s what we’ve always said,” isn’t nearly a good enough answer. But you say, “The Bible doesn’t say that Jesus was married,” and you are right in that it doesn’t say that directly, but it also doesn’t directly say that he was single. So, if we are being completely honest, the claim that Jesus was married has equal footing with the claim that he was single. Or maybe there is actually a case to be made from the pages of the Bible that he was married rather than single.
This book will show you evidence that Jesus was married from within the pages of the New Testament. You’ll also learn the motive behind the portrayal of an unmarried Jesus that has been ingrained in so many. After giving this book an honest read, if you still think there is not a case to be made that Jesus was married, then you may return to believing that he was single and celibate. Until then, it’s time to start proving that Jesus was single or else stop claiming it like it’s gospel truth because it’s not.
Strongly sourced and researched, Wilson has created something eye-opening, being one of the first mainstream Christians to take an unbiased look at the long-held presumption that Jesus was not married. I challenge you to read this book and try to see Jesus the same way you saw him before! -James Russell Lingerfelt, Master of Theology, Pepperdine University

Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?
I think the title of the book is a fair question. People tend to say that Jesus wasn’t married because there is no specific Bible verse saying that he was, but I could just as easily flip that around and say that Jesus was, indeed, married because there is no Bible verse that says that he was not. What’s more, would someone claim that the Bible tells us every detail about the life of Jesus? The writer of John tells us that such is not the case (John 21:25).
So both potential answers are actually on equal footing until we start examining the evidence. What’s interesting is that when you start examining the time in which Jesus lived and the way the Jewish people saw marriage as commanded by God in order to “be fruitful” and to “multiply,” it becomes more of an uphill battle to portray a single Jesus.
When it comes down to it, most people, if they are being honest, assume that Jesus was single because that is what they have been told since they were a child. So many of us have associated him being single with his very identity to the point that we can’t separate the two and assume that even asking if he was married is a potential act of heresy.
When people can separate what they have always been told from what they can actually prove or make a case for, they tend to be more open to my attempt to answer the question, “Was Jesus married?” I hope that people will approach it with an open mind and just see what I have to say instead of dismissing it outright before reading it. The way I see it, if the answer is that he was single and it’s a simple “open and shut case,” then my book ought to be no problem to prove wrong and then the reader can go on their merry way knowing that I was wrong and they were right as they assumed all along. But maybe, just maybe, there is a reasonable and logical case to be made that Jesus was married.
Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, is it directed at any particular market?
The book is directed toward a more traditional Christian market. I look at Jewish history, the Bible, and the days of the early church. I’m not trying to live in fantasyland. I want simple points and references to Scripture. I am reverent and respectful with the topic. I hope that mainstream Christians who have assumed Jesus was single or haven’t thought much about it will give it an honest read and see for themselves.
Qn 3: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?
Read over what you write until you can go through it entirely without fixing a typo or wanting to change anything. Be your own editor and you will put out a good product.
