About the Author
I was born in New Delhi, India. From as long as I can remember, I was totally fascinated by books. I loved to read all sorts of books, poems, magazines, journals etc. When I was sixteen, I wrote my first poem, which was published in the school magazine. Some of my early poems were published in school and college magazines, a few articles in Hindustan Times and NIE edition.
Whenever I am free, I like to spend my time amidst nature or with a book. I love nature and enjoy exploring its nuances. My passion for nature brought me in close association with WWF, where I work as an active volunteer.
Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?
Joys & Memories: Revisiting Childhood is a collection of short and simple poems. Each poem attempts to unravel a unique childhood experience or recreate a memory. Running carefree and happy chasing butterflies, counting the colours of the rainbow, jumping to reach out the stars at night, fun with the circus clowns, the magic of puppets; the joys of nature and memories of childhood are unique and special.
As we grow up, we move away from nature and the unpretentious pleasures of life. Often we get so lost in our world, that we do not seem to notice the beautiful wonders of nature. Entangled in our superficial, mundane world, glued to the world of virtual reality; we have moved far, far away. We seem to have forgotten our roots and obliterated the essence of our very being. Joys of Nature and Memories of Childhood are unique, indelible and timeless.
In my book, I urge the readers to relive the simple pleasures of life and revel in the marvels of nature. Let’s go back to childhood, when the sight of the rainbow made the day memorable when the impatience of waiting for the tooth fairy made us forget the pain of losing a tooth.
Become childlike: simple, uncomplicated and unpretentious. Let us run out to welcome the rising sun, jump and get wet in the rain puddles and travel into unknown worlds where the flight of fantasy takes us.
Yet once again, breathe in the fresh air, and move in sync to the rhythm of nature: let us reconnect and reclaim our lost treasure.
Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, is it directed at any particular market?
Most interested, I think would be children, young adults and parents who may want to buy this book
for their children. However, as the message is universal, even adults may be interested.
Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?
Lots of books and authors are my favourite. To name a few: Shakespeare, William Wordsworth, William Blake, Ruskin Bond, Sudha Murty, Dan Brown etc. I like Shakespeare for his brilliant plots and unforgettable characters; Wordsworth for his nature poems, Blake for simple yet profound masterpieces, Ruskin Bond for his fascinating stories; Sudha Murty for her extraordinary recreation of mythology.
Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown my all-time favourite for the unexpected twists and turns.
Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?
Read a lot: books, magazines, poetry, newspapers, e-books; whatever interests you. Try to write about anything and everything, a few lines every day or as often as possible. Do not bother about the grammar or spellings. Read what you write, every time you’ll want to make small changes and soon your content will be rich and well-written.
