About the Book
For as long as she can remember, Anikka Forbes has been a writer — a diary keeper, a truth teller, and a woman who uses words to make sense of the world around her. Writing has always been her God-given gift, long before she ever knew the full story of who she truly was.
The Journey of a Hidden Princess is a deeply honest and empowering memoir that follows Anikka’s life growing up in London, navigating the complexities of family, identity, and self-worth.
Through decades of raw diary entries and personal reflections, she shares the laughter, heartbreak, confusion, and resilience that shaped her into the lady she is today.
But everything changes when Anikka begins to uncover a hidden truth buried within her family’s history — a truth that reveals she is the granddaughter of a Nigerian princess and the great-granddaughter of a king.
This revelation doesn’t just connect her to a forgotten royal lineage… it reconnects her to herself.
More than a story of discovering heritage, this memoir is a powerful celebration of self-discovery, healing, faith, and truth.
Anikka’s journey shows that even when life feels confusing, painful, or unfair, there is always a deeper purpose unfolding — one written by God long before we understand it.

Writing has been her God-given gift, the place where she found healing, identity, and her voice long before she ever discovered her royal roots.

Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, is it directed at any particular market?
The Journey of a Hidden Princess speaks to anyone who has ever searched for identity, meaning, or belonging. While my story includes the discovery of my royal Nigerian heritage, at its core the book is about truth, resilience, and healing — themes that are universal.
This book will resonate with:
• Women of all ages who have faced emotional challenges, family complexities, or felt unseen.
• Readers who love memoirs rooted in real-life transformation and self-discovery.
• People navigating identity or heritage questions, especially those from multicultural or diaspora backgrounds.
• Anyone who has kept diary entries, journaled, or found comfort in writing their truth.
• Individuals on a healing or faith journey, who believe God uses our stories for purpose.
Although the book can be enjoyed by anyone, I wrote it especially for those who have ever felt like they didn’t quite fit into the world around them — because my journey shows that sometimes the place you belong isn’t discovered until much later in life.
Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?
I confess I am terrible at reading books, but can write galore!
But I’ve always been drawn to authors who write with honesty, vulnerability, and purpose — the ones who aren’t afraid to share the parts of their lives that many people keep hidden.
Writers who tell the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable, inspire me the most because that’s the kind of writer I naturally am.
One of my greatest influences has always been Maya Angelou. Her ability to turn pain into poetry, and truth into empowerment, showed me that writing isn’t just storytelling — it’s healing. Her strength, grace, and wisdom taught me that our experiences, no matter how difficult, hold value when we share them.
I also love authors who write memoirs, particularly those who share their journeys of resilience, identity, and self-discovery.
Their stories remind me that writing can change lives — first our own, and then the lives of others who read our words.
But more than anyone, I am inspired by God as the ultimate author — the one who writes our destinies long before we understand them.
My writing gift comes from Him, and every book I create is guided by that purpose.
So while I admire many authors, the ones who have touched me the deepest are those who, like me, write from the heart, tell their truth with courage, and use their words to help others heal and grow.
Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?
As a non-fiction writer, the biggest piece of guidance I can offer is this: be brave enough to tell your truth. Only share what you’re comfortable with, of course, but understand that your real power as a writer comes from your authenticity.
If you can get to a place where your mindset is, “I don’t give a fck — this is my story, this is my truth,”* then write it. Share it. Own it. We only get one life, and hiding the parts that shaped you doesn’t protect you — it silences you.
No one is perfect. Everyone has a story. And you never know who needs to hear yours. Even if your words empower just one person, encourage one person, or make one person feel less alone — then your writing has already done more than you realise.
Writing isn’t just about crafting sentences; it’s about releasing what’s inside you so it can serve a purpose beyond you. So my advice is simple: write with courage, write with honesty, and write with the intention to heal — yourself and whoever else your story might reach.
