Where the Crown Fell: The Rise of a Forgotten Heir (The Crownlands Series)
In the quiet woods of Thaloria, Eleanor Labrelle lives a sheltered life—until her mother, Zara, dies with a final, haunting wish: that Eleanor returns to the court of Wonderworth and claim her birthright. With nothing left to tether her, Eleanor ventures into the infamous Outlands—an ancient, cursed forest no soul crosses unchanged. What awaits on the other side is a kingdom of splendour and secrets, where power is currency, and every smile may hide a dagger.
Eleanor finds an unlikely connection with Prince Roman of Bravethorne—a man bound to another by duty yet drawn to Eleanor by fate. Their bond deepens into forbidden love, igniting tensions within the Court and threatening fragile alliances between kingdoms.
Where the Crown Fell is a sweeping tale of forbidden love, political intrigue, and a young woman’s fight to step out of exile and into power—if she can survive long enough to claim it.

About the Author
Winter Warleggan has always lived with one foot in reality and the other in imagined worlds. Born in Palermo, raised between Northern Italy and Ghana, and now based in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, Winter draws on a life shaped by movement, culture, and creativity. Her debut fantasy romance novel, Where the Crown Fell, blends magic, emotion, and adventure in a story that speaks to the dreamers and the daring.
By day, she works in the social care sector. By night (and in every spare moment), she writes, reads, and lets her imagination run wild. A lifelong lover of books, Winter also has a background in music and art—and once dreamed of being a singer. These days, she sings for joy and for her 9-year-old daughter, who inspires her every step of the way.
Winter loves exploring new places, weaving emotion into fantasy, and building worlds where love and power collide.
Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book, Where the Crown Fell: The Rise of a Forgotten Heir, What is it about?
“Where the Crown Fell” is a sweeping fantasy romance set across six warring kingdoms in the Crownlands Realm. At the heart of the story is Eleanor, a young woman raised in obscurity, and her journey to claim her royal lineage. When the fragile peace between kingdoms begins to unravel, she is thrust into a dangerous world of court politics, ancient magic, and divided loyalties.
Eleanor finds herself torn between two powerful men—King Halric, the ruler of Kaerleon, and Roman, a warrior whose devotion to her runs deeper than duty. But the crown that awaits her is soaked in secrets, and not everyone who smiles is a friend.
It’s a story of identity, betrayal, longing, and the heavy cost of destiny. There’s forbidden desires, political intrigue, and moments of aching tenderness.
Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, Where the Crown Fell: The Rise of a Forgotten Heir, is it directed at any particular market?
I would say it is perfect for readers who love immersive fantasy worlds with a strong emotional core. It’s primarily aimed at young adults and fans of romantic fantasy and character-driven drama — people who enjoy the tension of love triangles, secret heirs, palace intrigue, and slow-burning emotional stakes.
Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?
My absolute favourite is J. K. Rowling and the Harry Potter series. I grew up reading the Harry Potter books and they shaped my view of the fantasy world and was what inspired me to write Where the Crown Fell.
Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?
First, I’d say: don’t wait for perfection to begin. Start messy. Write the bad first draft, because you can’t revise a blank page. So many new writers get stuck thinking their first draft has to be beautiful — but the real magic often happens in the rewriting.
Secondly, read widely and intentionally. Pay attention to what moves you in other books — the dialogue that feels alive, the pacing that grips you, the scenes that made you feel something — and then try to understand why it worked.
Also: write with your heart, but edit with your head. Let your emotions guide the story in the early stages, but when you revise, be brutally honest. Trim what doesn’t serve the story, even if it’s a sentence you love.
Surround yourself with people who take writing seriously. Join critique groups, engage with other authors, and be open to feedback — but remember, your voice is your own. Not everyone has to “get” what you’re doing.
And finally: keep going. Even when the doubt creeps in. Even when you think no one will care. The story you’re telling matters to someone out there. But first, it has to matter to you.
