Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?
The Writers of the Future is an anthology of the winning science fiction and fantasy short stories in the international writing contest.
The contest was started by L. Ron Hubbard (the author of the sci-fi classic Battlefield Earth) to help discover new authors and give them a boost in this highly competitive field.
He explained why we started the contest in the introduction of the first volume:
“A culture is as rich and as capable of surviving as it has imaginative artists. The artist is looked upon to start things. The artist injects the spirit of life into a culture. And through his creative endeavors, the writer works continually to give tomorrow a new form.
“In these modern times, there are many communication lines for works of art. Because a few works of art can be shown so easily to so many, there may even be fewer artists. The competition is very keen and even dagger sharp.
“It is with this in mind that I initiated a means for new and budding writers to have a chance for their creative efforts to be seen and acknowledged.” —L. Ron Hubbard
The judges are professional authors who also want to help new authors. They include many of the sci-fi and fantasy greats: Brandon Sanderson, Nnedi Okorafor, Orson Scott Card, Kevin J. Anderson, Jody Lynn Nye, Tim Powers, Larry Niven, Katherine Kurtz, etc…
There is no entry fee and the judging is done blind, so all who enter have a fair chance of winning (race, gender, or age). The winners really are the best of the best.
