My book takes a different approach to recruiting by focusing on talent attraction by building and enhancing the employment brand. It’s based upon the belief that talented people are attracted to work for organizations that they value and respect and can understand and appreciate their employment proposition. I also focus on the importance of people, which often gets lost in the world of technology.

Practice and be critical of yourself and your writing style.

Qn 5: From your experience what are the main mistakes that applicants make when applying for roles?

Not connecting with the HR contact via LinkedIn and other networking opportunities.

Following up, networking with the company and its employees.

Qn 7: What advice would you give to someone who hasn’t been in employment for a number of months or years?

Keep your skills sharp; take trainings; stay in contact with other professionals; look for contract opportunities; look for volunteer opportunities.

Qn 8: What has been the most unusual tactic that you have seen applicants use to attract attention in the job market?

I wouldn’t call it unusual, but you don’t see it much, and that is followed up with a call to HR after applying. That gets attention.

I’m finishing up a book called “Get the Job You Love”, and it systematically goes through the process of finding, securing, and thriving in the job you’re meant to have.
