Dating Me briefly shares the sweetness of life and the hardships that come along with it. Walk through each chapter of this book living through the eyes of Author Areatae McGhee, who gives it to you raw about communication, change, self-awareness of her struggles, behaviors, and relationships that lead to a lack of self-love but maturing to fall in love with self all over again.
About the Author
I am a Certified Family Life Educator, Life Coach and holds a master’s in psychology with an emphasis in life coaching. I’m a mother first. I love music as it helps with my mood and writing. I enjoy being with family and friends watching movies, cooking and enjoying each others company. I enjoy supporting individuals with community resources and information that supports their career, education and personal goals.
Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?
For many reasons, we may see ourselves through the lives of others. Mostly, because our minds are filled with comparison and contrast scenarios. Also, we feel a constant need to belong and find our place in this world. A benefit of this book is the realness of identifying how our past, present and future all fall together. Yes, it will talk about the pain many of us have from losing family, our childhood, the love of our life and ourselves all at the same time. The magic of it all is how we get back up and stand again.
Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, is it directed at any particular market?
Dating Me would be of interest to individuals who are seeking motivation and self-help around communication, relationships and reflecting on the past to bring growth. Young Adults audience would enjoy this book since I talk about many ways I as a young woman had felt around trying to identify myself and becoming self-aware of who I was and what I wanted to become.
Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?
The first Author is Tupac Shakur. Many know him as just a Rapper, but he was more than that. As a Poet, he could move words all over the page and make you feel a part of his writing. Intelligent. This brings me to Maya Angelou, one of the greatest Poets of all time. She embraces words and forms sentences that spark your thoughts as second guesses when they are facts. Passionate. Lastly, is Saul Williams who is the emotion, passion, and fire in the room all at the same time.
Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?
You have to believe in yourself and your craft. As a writer, you should understand the skill you hold and how your words can move someone from within. Be brave enough to write how you feel and wise enough to know how it can affect your audience.
