About the Book
Silken Waters transports readers back to the Vale, a realm governed by magic and ruled by powerful races of elves and vampires. These two races have been at odds for a thousand years, forbidden to associate, much less fall in love. In the sequel to Child of Dawn, Rennault, the leader of the Bradach- a faction of vampire pirates – must face the changes brought by the newfound peace in the Vale. When his, and other Bradach’s way of life is threatened, he seeks his right to rule the waters. Little does he know that this endeavor will take him on an adventure that will not only change his life but the lives of everyone in the Vale. He will be challenged in love, brotherhood, and choosing between what is right, and what is easy.
About the Author
LESLIE ANNE LEE has been writing since she was six years old, crafting tales on newsprint paper with crayons before graduating to pen and journal. Her dedication to the craft has resulted in the publication of six books across various genres, and her poetry has been featured in several anthologies. When she’s not writing, Leslie enjoys contributing to local film non-profits, participating in red-carpet premieres, and nurturing her creative spirit through gardening, dancing, and helping her children make movies.
Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book, Silken Waters, What is it about?
The second book in the Legends of the Vale series, Silken Waters picks up during a time of uneasy peace between the elves and vampires. Both races are struggling to understand how to live life in a world where they are no longer permitted to be at war. Rennault, the leader of a vampire pirate faction known as the braddach, is one such individual. Faced with losing his livelihood, he is willing to bargain with the elves in order to maintain his right to sail the waters. But when he is forced to kidnap an orphaned elf, he finds his priorities begin to change. And as they set off on an unexpected quest he realizes he must choose between doing what is right, and what is easy.
Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, Silken Waters, is it directed at any particular market?
People of all ages. Particularly, people who love fantasy. If you love LOTR and Twilight (the books, not the movies) this is for you!
Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?
C.S. Lewis / Tolkien – Because of their intelligence and genius in creating worlds with the depth and breadth of Narnia and Middle Earth.
Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?
Never stop. Even if no one reads your writing, even if you never make a profit. If you love it, do it.

Qn 6: What was your inspiration for Silken Waters?
Silken Waters was never supposed to happen. I wrote the prequel – Child of Dawn – last year and my readers wanted the story to continue. In talking to a fellow creative, we came up with the idea of vampire pirates, and the story unfolded from there!
Qn 7: Will readers need to have read Child of Dawn before they read Silken Waters?
It is helpful to read Child of Dawn first – there are returning characters, and it helps to know more backstory to understand what is happening in Silken Waters. But its not entirely necessary.
Qn 8: What was the most challenging part of Silken Waters to write and why?
The most challenging part was being consistent in continuing the story from Child of Dawn. I was always looking back to make sure I got details right. When you create a whole world, you are not only creating the story and characters, you are creating geography, history, culture, etc. So you have to at least pretend to know what you are doing!
Qn 9: Vampire or Elf and why?
Vampire. Always vampire. I have always been fascinated with vampire lore – going back to the stories that inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula. I think they can be both malevolent, but also tragic, beautiful, and conflicted. And I think they are a reflection of the human condition. We are forever wrestling with the darkness in us, fighting it with the light. But it is important to remember that there is not light without darkness, and therefore, we need to find a balance.
Qn 10: What is next do you have more books planned in the Legends of the Vale book series?
Once I recover, I will write the third installment. This book will deal with the daughter of two of the main characters…. and dragons. If you read the first two books, dragons are teased… but in the third, they are the main characters.
