About the Author

Lucian Phillips has, through the years, had many jobs, the most exhausting of which was being a classroom teacher. He is now a writer and musician as well as being a part-time hermit. Science fiction is his chosen genre because he says it shines a light on our lives and humanity in a way that brings wonder to our existence. Lucian lives near Sydney, Australia with his extended family and two tuxedo cats.

Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book, Slow Space, What is it about?

Slow space is an adventure in the mould of classic science fiction. A story that spans time and space it attempts to grapple with the size of the Universe by taking our main characters, Brax, an Astro-physicist, and Briggs, Captain of an interstellar cruiser, on an amazing adventure that will enthral and startle. It is the near future and corporations have stealthily taken control of governments across the world. But the mighty Destiny Corporation, just known as The Company, is plagued by attacks. The Dark Angels want an end to AI but Destiny use it to rig the financial markets and it is their ‘cash cow’. Against this background Briggs and Brax, with Brax’s family, set off on Destiny’s biggest interstellar cruiser ‘The New Washington’ to explore new solar systems for the first time.

Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, Slow Space, is it directed at any particular market?

It is hard science fiction. If you are interested in any authors in the mould of Asimov or Arthur C Clarke this will be your thing. Other authors who influenced this include Phillip K Dick, and John Wyndham. Also people who follow Star Trek will enjoy this.

Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?

My Favourite books are The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. Also Contact by Carl Sagan.

Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?

I am a first time author and have been seeking the guidance of those that know more than me. So that would be my advice. Ask questions of others. Get advice. Take criticism.
