Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book What is it about?

The book is about a curious little star who is all alone in outer space. With a single thought sparked from his imagination, he embarks on a journey through the galaxies. Along the way, he encounters unexpected friendships and new adventures that lead him to discover his true purpose.

Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, is it directed at any particular market?

This book is designed for beginning readers, teachers or parents. Children often see the illustrations before reading or hearing the story. So I focused not only on the message but telling the story vividly through the illustrations of this picture book. It can be read as a bedtime story or during the day. It tells the story of friendship, courage and the importance of self-confidence. This story is great for teachers and parents to share with children about being kind but most of all using their imagination.

Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?

Oh my, there are so many authors I enjoy reading. Honestly, it depends on the genre and era when it comes to my favourite books. As a child, one of my favourite authors was Richard Scarry. As a teenager, I developed an interest in the post-romantic era and poetry. I indulged in the Bronte sisters, John Keats and Langston Hughes just to name a few. I would say that I’m drawn to authors whose life mirrors some of the characters they write about in their books. It makes me feel as though I have a connection with the writer. Most authors write stories that mirror some aspect of their life in one way or another. It makes their stories all the more intriguing. It’s human connectivity, sometimes we are drawn to authors because of culture, ethnicity, experiences and so on. It’s their life’s story that draws readers in to make their audience want to know more about the books they write.

Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?

Just begin to write. Throw out all the rules, because it’s your story. You are the author, you can choose how the story begins and how it ends. Once you begin to write you can focus on the logistical factors later. Some people think to write a story you have to have the perfect setting. Creativity can hit you in the most unlikely places. In fact, some of the greatest books and book series were written in the most unlikely places. Sit down and begin to write and let the creative process begin. You might be surprised where the process will take you once you’re done. Writer’s and teachers like to coin the phrase “use your imagination.” Imagination can take you anywhere at any time. My slogan for creative literature is to write your story and make your mark. The world is listening!
