About the Author
I’m K Dezendorf, author of the first instalment of the Shadows of the Umbra series, The Wayfinder’s Apprentice. For me, there was never a wrong time to enjoy a good novel, not even in the middle of school lectures, much to my teacher’s chagrin.
I began writing in earnest at age 14, often horrifying my parents with internet searches, all of which I assured was strictly for research purposes. When I’m not reading or writing, I enjoy watching anime, playing video games, and practising my digital art. I currently live in Arizona with my loving husband and beautiful daughter.
Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book, The Wayfinder’s Apprentice (Shadows of the Umbra Book 1), What is it about?
My book is about an abused teen girl who leaves her life on Earth in favor of a life in an alternate world where magic and monsters exist. It is a journey of growth, hardship, and an exploration of relationships, both good and bad.
Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, The Wayfinder’s Apprentice (Shadows of the Umbra Book 1), is it directed at any particular market?
The story features a teenage female protagonist, thus it will most likely strongly resonate with teen and female readers.
Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?
I strongly gravitated towards Holly Black when I was younger because I liked the way she depicted fantasy, mixing the morbid with the fantastical. These days I’m leaning more into Brandon Anderson’s works because of his memorable characters and the deep relationships they forge.
Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?
Two words: Keep writing. The worst thing any writer can do is stop or give up. Writing is by no means an easy thing, and the road to publishing is rife with struggles and hardships, but if you keep pouring your heart and passion into your work, then every day you’ll improve and reach new heights.
Qn 5: Where can our readers find out more about you, do you have a website, or a way to be contacted?
My website is https://kdezendorf.com and you can find me on Twitter @DezendorfK.
