About the Author
Erik Van Achter was born in Belgium. He still lives there and teaches English for Engineering. Erik studied in the USA as a Fulbright Fellow – the University of Chicago and later as a post-doctoral fellow at Brown University. He holds a PhD on the short story. He has published one collection of short stories n( FALLING – TALES FROM THE EAST COAST). He Loves collegiate wrestling and country music.
Qn 1: Can you tell us more about your book, Longing for the Snow – POETRY, What is it about?
The book is a collection of poetry I wrote during my postdoctoral stay in BROWN UNIVERSITY -USA -IVY LEAGUE in 2018. It is so to speak a celebration of nature on the east coast, Fall and winter and at the same time a therapeutic journey. Suffered from Meniere’s disease, ie nausea while losing my equilibrium.
Qn 2: Who do you think would be interested in this book, Longing for the Snow – POETRY, is it directed at any particular market?
Everyone who has had a university education and especially those interested in Ivy league, the “old” part of the USA – The East Coast.
Qn 3: Out of all the books in the world, and all the authors, which are your favourite and why?
My favourite authors are American. Mostly the classic short story writers like Ambrose Bierce, Jack London, Stephen Crane and Eudora Welty. I like the short story as a genre because it can tell a whole world in a few pages and make the reader think twice.
As to Poetry, I like the English renaissance writers and especially John Donne.
Qn 4: What guidance would you offer to someone new, or trying to enhance their writing?
I would say that you first should start making notes. Re-read them and let these notes live their own life in your heart. Write it all again from scratch and read aloud. In the end, find yourself a very good line editor.

My website is under construction. But I also published a collection of short stories – “Falling, Tales from the East Coast”. here the Publishing house XLibris ( Indiana) provided a website erik.vanachter.com. The collection of stories was quite popular and received 9 -5 stars on Amazon.com
