About the Book
Monty MacDrum is the last of the MacDrum clan, a Scottish clan of mini-magicians.
Monty is six years old and wins first prize in a spell competition. He becomes a Menor – a junior Wensum.
Monty doesn’t read his Menor spell instructions and his first Menor spell goes very wrong.
By mistake, Monty conjures up the genie Horum the Hassum from Hummland, the greatest of all genies.
Horum humm talks and changes colour according to his mood. Due to not reading the Menor spell instructions, Monty also changes color according to his mood.
The spell goes so wrong that he also conjures up the nasty, dirty, smelly witch Crazy Crew, the curse of all Menors and Wensums.
Monty’s secret weapon is his helicopter hat, with which he can fly. His helicopter hat propels him around, instead of an old-fashioned broomstick.
Let the fun of Monty the Menor’s Magic begin!

Monty is the last of the MacDrums. A clan of Scottish mini-magicians. Monty’s first spell goes horribly wrong and his magic wand turns into a twig, his magician’s hat a helicopter and he changes color to match his mood, copying Horum the humming genie and Casslet the cat. If Monty is pleased, he turns pink. Bored, he turns bronze, etc. Monty is fun, full of laughter, and also educational – without the children knowing they are learning! Monty is a unique reading experience. An absolute joy for young and not-so-young. Nothing gives D.S. Harvey more pleasure than to see a child smile as they read Monty. To hear children quote Monty’s favorite saying, ‘No funny. No funny’, is a great thrill for her.
